A very common cosmetic problem with the e9x BMWs (and maybe nearly all models?) is that the window trim disintegrates and looks like shit. I had replaced the windshield trim in Texas, and then had it replaced again when the windshield was replaced. Thank you to the huge rock that was kicked up by a tractor trailer coming back from South Padre Island.

The rear window trim was looking pretty terrible. In particular, the upper corners crack and rot away. It seems that the corners are made of a different rubber, unlike the metal reinforced long edges. You can even see the seams from the manufacturing process.

Replacement is easy enough, with the only challenge being pulling the metal c-channel frame of the trim away from the window and out of the groove. It’s not that difficult. I cleaned up the channel of debris.

Putting the new trim piece is simple. I used some Meguiar’s detailer to spray down the channel to make it easier to get the trim to slide into place around the window.

Oddly enough, my car does not have a trim piece along the bottom of the rear window. It never had any since I’ve owned the car.
